Raddish Kids had been on my wishlist for things to do with the kids for a long time, but during the COVID lockdowns when I found we had nothing but time, it was the best thing ever. Not only did it provide us with a fantastic way to spend quality time together, but it also imparted essential kitchen skills to my little ones. Here I'll share some insights from our year-long culinary journey with these delightful cooking and baking kits.

Do Raddish Kids Kits Come with Food?
This is often the first question asked, and the answer is NO! It's not like Hello Fresh or Blue Apron for kids where all the ingredients you'll need arrive pre-measured in one box. But hey, that's part of the secret sauce that makes Raddish Kids worthwhile! First, no need to race against time to make the recipes right away before the ingredients spoil. Second, you get the freedom to customize and tweak according to your family's particular dietary needs and preferences. Third, kids have more ownership of the culinary process from beginning to end which includes sourcing fresh ingredients! A beautiful grocery list card is included with each kit which my toddler loved bringing to the store and checking off as we picked up items.
What is Included in a Raddish Kids Kit?
Each kit contains three kid-friendly recipes with illustrated, step by step recipe cards that are perfect for kids ages 4-14. Each recipe has a featured culinary skill lesson which teach them safe and smart kitchen techniques from chopping vegetables to kneading dough. The kits also included a kitchen tool (exclusively made for Raddish Kids) and collectibles like conversation starter cards and patches. What kid doesn't love to earn patches? It's like becoming a decorated Scout, in the kitchen instead of the woods. The sibling add-on is clutch so that each kid gets their own apron, patch, and kitchen tools ensuring the only sibling rivalry is over who adds the next ingredient! Last but not least, make sure you check out all the fantastic extras waiting for you on the website. Dig into bonus recipes, allergy-friendly modifications, cooking videos, and even themed Spotify playlists to add a lively beat to your kitchen adventures. Don't sleep on these awesome perks!
Are My Kids the Right Age for Raddish Kids?
We started our subscription when my son was 5 and daughter had recently turned 3. Given how young they were, I knew I wouldn't just be leaving them in the kitchen with the kits and expecting dinner to be ready in an hour. But we survived, and thrived! There were plenty of ways for them to be involved from reading off the ingredients, to measuring, pouring, and mixing. It was a fully hands on activity that often kept us all occupied for two or three times as long as the stated recipe times. Pull up chairs, or have kitchen towers at the ready, this is how magical childhood memories are made!
How Do I Find the Time to Cook With My Kids?
You might be thinking, "How do you find time to cook with the little ones?" The simple answer is: Space. It. Out. The three recipes that came with each monthly Cooking Club kit work well together to form a 3 course meal, but young kids have fairly limited attention span, and no busy parent has time or patience to spend the entire day wrangling kids in the kitchen. Save the kits as a weekend or no-school day activity. As with any task where you have young kids "helping out," you can expect there to be quite a bit of mess and slow going, but they have to start somewhere! With any luck, your kids will be inspired to continue honing their culinary skills until one day you can finally sit back and relax while they take over the task of putting food on the table. We're playing the parenting long game over here!
Will My Kids Actually Eat the Food?
Ah, the million-dollar question: "Will my kids actually eat the food?" and the answer is often, YES! As we've learned from our certified food therapist over at Play to Learn, involving kids in the food making process is a key to helping them expand their taste buds beyond heavily processed "safe" foods. Cooking in the kitchen together has been a wonderful way to help our son overcome challenging sensory sensitivities in touch, smell, and taste. He would often venture at least a bite of our latest Raddish Kids creations, and frequently asks us to revisit his favorite recipes.
Besides even if a dish didn't make the cut for our tiny food critics, it just meant more for us! Everything we whipped up with Raddish Kids was absolutely delicious according to our grown-up taste buds.
